Almost since the beginning of computing and automation in business there has been an inherent tension between “business” teams and “technical IT” teams. These tensions have only become more complex with the emersion of “data” or “BI” teams which may sit independently or roll up through either business or IT. Sadly, these tensions can cost companies millions of dollars and hinder performance. It is not enough to find ways to work around each other, we must find ways to work together for the good of the company.

Ben will share personal stories working through these tensions and share some best practices for how we can break down the walls between business, IT and BI teams. There should always be some tension in these relationships but we cannot allow that to paralyze the business. At the core, we need to create empathy between teams so that together we can uncover what is best for the overall organization while leveraging best in class data and technical practices.
