Data visualization, infographics and visual storytelling form a powerful concoction to inform and engage audiences.

65% of people are visual learners, and only 17% are data literate. Because graphics are an important method of showing complex systems - visuals can be a useful tool to help audiences relate to and connect with data.

This session is an introduction to visual narrative through creative projects in environmental communication, using principles of behavioral psychology. Learn about work is being done on the study of visuals in environmental communication, and how research and other environmental information can be translated into visuals to increase engagement. This session introduces some basic principles of information design and methods to visually present data and information in a way that is relevant to audiences. The presentation includes examples of visuals and other creative projects created by Background Stories, and other creatives.
